The Best Walking Shoes and Sneakers For Plantar Fasciitis
Recently, I have experienced terrible heel pain while walking and so I went to see a podiatrist who diagnosed me with plantar fasciitis. He recommended some shoes, but I decided to do some research on my own as well to find the best walking shoes for plantar fasciitis. Don’t worry, there are several great options out there for you!
You get plantar fasciitis when you strain the ligament that stretches between your toes and heel bone by walking, standing, or running too much and wearing shoes that don’t provide proper support. Because of this, wearing good shoes is very important and you should look for
This is one of my absolute favorites. It’s designed specifically for women who overpronate (roll their feet inward too much). It controls extra motion in your feet very well and realigns them to prevent too much pronation. I particularly like the flexible midsole that provides really good cushioning and so you can wear this shoe all day and not feel any pain! I also like the full-grain leather uppers and the 100% polyester mesh liner. It is approved by the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) and is very popular on Amazon with solid reviews and is one of the best walking shoes for plantar fasciitis.
2. Vionic Women’s Venture Athletic Shoes
This is one of the best walking sneakers for plantar fasciitis. I really like its sporty look so that it can be worn at the gym or for casual walking. It has a man-made upper made of breathable mesh and a removable insert. It has Tri-Planar Motion Control, which uses a deep heel cup and arch support to help readjust and support your feet. I think its best feature is the Orthaheel Technology, which includes a special type of footbed made to naturally align your feet and relieve pain. It is approved by the APMA and is a great choice for all-around use.
3. Vionic Zen Women’s Walking Shoes With Orthaheel
I really like this one too. It has a deep heel cup and flexible but solid arch support to naturally align your feet. When I tried this on, the toe-box felt a little too narrow for my feet (but that is just me!). Otherwise, this is a great all-purpose walking shoe if you suffer from heel and knee pain due to flat feet and excessive pronation. I also like the all-leather, water resistant upper with colorful contrasts, the flexible and lightweight midsole for shock absorption, and the tough rubber outsole for excellent traction. It also has Tri-Planar Motion Control, Orthaheel Technology, and is APMA approved.
4. Brooks Women’s Addiction Walker Walking Shoes
I have a friend who has this and she describes it as an everyday walking shoe with the characteristics of a running shoe. Although it is very limited in color choices, it is extremely popular on Amazon and buyers rave about how comfortable it is. The Brooks Addiction Walker is doctor recommended for people with excessive pronation, flat feet, and diabetes. I especially like the full-grain leather upper, the midsole with extra cushioning, and the fluid chambers in the heel and forefoot to absorb shocks. It is available on Amazon in only three colors, but has many different sizes.
5. Asics Women’s GEL-Nimbus 17 Running Shoe
I use this when I go running on weekends and I highly recommend it. It is feels very comfortable and soft and I use for everyday walking too. I like it so much that I consider it the best Asics walking shoes for plantar fasciitis. The reason it is so comfortable is because of the gel cushioning system in the rearfoot, forefoot, and midsole to absorb shocks and provide excellent support. It also has an upper made of seamless mesh, a plastic external cage for heel support, and a lighter and bouncier sockliner. The customer reviews have been extremely positive and it would be a great choice as an everyday walking shoe.
Researching for the best walking shoes for plantar fasciitis was very interesting and eye-opening. I find myself daily wishing that I would have read about plantar fasciitis earlier and purchased one these shoes before I started my job that makes me stand and walk all day. As they say, hindsight is always twenty-twenty. But I hope this article will help you choose one of these shoes so that you will better protect and support your feet before you do any prolonged standing, walking, or running. If you are already in pain, wearing one of these shoes is all the more important. Good luck and don’t forget to also see your podiatrist.
